Sunday Images & Thoughts 2012: Keystone!

by: Mhe-anne L. Ojeda

Book of Mormon Lesson 1: "The Keystone of Our Religion"
Scripture Block: Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, Title Page,  Introduction
Location: New Jersey, USA (I did not teach this lesson in class)

This lesson reminded me of the grand arches of Paris, France particularly the most famous, The Arc De Triomphe (or Triumphal Arch in English). The Arch was built from 1806 but was completed in 1836 and remain standing in Place Charles De Gaulle until now.  Notice that stone in the middle of the Arch which holds the other stones in place and prevents the arch from collapsing. It is called the keystone, which if constructed correctly, the Arch like Arc De Triomphe can remain standing for thousand of years.

The same is true with yet another keystone, this time not literally for the building, but most importantly the keystone of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. President EzraTaft Benson explained that,
" Just as the arch crumbles if the keystone is removed, so does all the Church stand or fall with the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon"... There are three ways in which the Book of Mormon is the keystone of the religion of Latterday Saints. “It is the keystone in the witness of Christ. It is the keystone of our doctrine. It is the keystone of testimony.” (Ensign, Nov. 1986, p. 5).
I would like to add witness to Pres. Benson's words and affirm based on personal experience that the Book of Mormon is indeed the keystone of our religionThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1987, (after I mistook the three LDS missionaries as those story tellers going door-to-door selling children's books and encyclopedia), I desired to know if the story they told me and my family about the 14 - year old Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon is true. I knew that if the Book is true, then it follows that  Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, and Joseph Smith was his prophet, and the Church of Jesus Christ is restored again on the earth.

I received a witness that the Book of Mormon is True so 27 of my family were baptized into the Church on various dates in April 1987.

"Sunday Images & Thoughts 2012" Series are lessons from the Book of Mormon that I shared in the Deparo Ward, Novaliches Philippines Stake as its Adult Gospel Doctrine Sunday School Teacher coupled with a related picture from my travel. This is my way of accepting the challenge of  President Ezra Taft Benson to the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints to share the Book of Mormon. He said: “The time is long overdue for a massive flooding of the earth with the Book of Mormon.xxx. “The time is now!” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1988, 4; or Ensign, Nov. 1988, 4–5).
