"START BEING" Monday Series: APPRECIATIVE

by: Mhe-anne L. Ojeda

APPRECIATIVE (i.e. feeling or expressing gratitude, having or showing appreciation or favorable critical judgment).I appreciate my parents for being the best parents they could be in their own little way (quite literally too, lol). To show my appreciation to them, I date them weekly (at the mall, around the Philippines or travel to foreign countries) and give them simple treats. Seeing them this happy is just so precious and help me to see just how much I have to appreciate about them!

Who do you appreciate and how do you show it?

*This is part of a series of 2012 Monday post inspired by Leigh Anne Jasheway-Bryant's Stop Doing, Start Being article on Family Circle Magazine April 1, 2005 issue. What she said about having so many "to-do" list and trying hard everyday to check off the list hit so close to home! I agree with her that what I need is a list to help me be who I want to be, both for myself and others. Click on START BEING Monday Series to see other list of cool virtues we could emulate!

  4. I've been doing the same for my kuya (been parentless for years) whenever he has extra time off from work. I bring him to food establishments most of the time. Good food + Good company is all worth it talaga! =) That's really nice of you to treat your parents once in a while, they simply need it.

  11. Sabi nila pag daw inohonor natin ang mga parents natin, i bebless daw tau ni Lord ng mas marami pa. With this act, surely, more blessings are coming your way. Hopefully, I can have this "being" for my parents. Maybe I'll start by calling them every once once a week instead of calling them every once in a month.

  17. every person has own way of showing appreciation and sometimes, people don't do it the way we expect them to do. but then, it's always nice to say thank you :)

  18. You are really such a good daughter. I agree, no matter how busy we are, let us not neglect precious sometimes with our beloved parents. Just to reciprocate everything they've done for us.

  19. Oh sweet. We used to do that but since everybody became busy, we had lesser time to bond with each other. I always miss my mom and dad and I am thankful that they are my parents. This is the reason also why I do my best to show them how grateful I am to have them in my life.

  20. Being appreciative is the other way of being grateful to someone whom you're gratefully indebted to. Your parents are always among the top in the list to be appreciated for they did the best they could to rear you up or what you're now today. Spending time with them by devoting a certain day and time is one best opportunity you've been them. I appreciate that kind of attitude of yours. I regret to say that my parents who are already passed away, I never had a time spending together with them in my own expense for I've already my own family. Nevertheless, I should do it just what you've done.
