US Summer 2011: Getting Freebies While Dining in San Jose, California!

by: Mhe-anne L. Ojeda

Date: July 5-6,2011
Location: San Jose, California

I maybe have been in San Jose, California for only two nights to dine out with lovely couple Eric and May, but that was enough to satisfy my appetite in more ways than one, and to enjoy the freebies that come with it!

Freebies as in free, without charge bread, soup or drinks that comes with purchase. Not that I was looking for one,but just stumbled upon it first hand. And that makes me happy!

The Cheesecake Factory
Oakridge Mall

First night was a trip to the Cheesecake Factory which serves a huge variety of flavorful food from Asian to Western styled cuisine in a classical modern setting. The place is nice, well-lit, very spacious so it was not too crowded when we were there although it is usually busy being located inside the mall. And as the name suggest this place is known for their cheesecakes and they don't disappoint with the huge variety of different cheesecakes to choose from.

Freebie: I particularly enjoyed the unlimited bread (wheat, healthy bread that is!) with a dip served while waiting for the main course to come. It was in itself yummy and filling that I sent my Bang - Bang Chicken and Shrimp (also delicious) to the doggie bag.

(Bang - Bang Chicken and Shrimp is a spicy thai dish with the flavors of curry, peanut, chile and coconut sauteed with vegetables and served over steamed white rice.)

Sato Restaurant
5526 Monterey Hwy, San Jose, CA 95138

On my second night we dined at Sato Japanese Restaurant near Walmart where we were shopping! My tummy suddenly got sick and I needed a miso soup! Being a first timer there,I find it cute to see a Sushi "Train" (but too shy to take a picture of it since we aren't getting sushi) but a Bento Box and miso soup.

Freebie? I was surprised that miso soup was given to us right after we sat down! Thought the waitress could read my mind huh! Actually, all diners get miso soup to start off with the meal.It is really yummy so I requested for another serving. Yea,still at no cost!!

Jollibee
2008 Tully Rd San Jose, CA 95122

Alright. The Bento Boxes truly filled us up good but we still have a room for dessert. So, time for Eric's surprise! He brought us to the best Filipino Fastfood resto - Jollibee!!!!

Are we surprise? Of course! Seeing Jollibee gave me a sense of pride and a sense of belonging although I honestly wasn't craving for any Pinoy fare being in the US for barely a week. And for my friend May who hasn't been back in the Philippines for awhile, Jollibee near where she lives is the closest she could get to having that familiar Pinoy food...fast.

And the freebie? A buy one,get one free Pearl Cooler in two flavors - Buko Pandan and Ube. We got two orders of each. Not sure who got two though.
