LDS Jubilee Celebration In The Philippines: First Grand Rehearsal November 30, 2010

by: Mhe-anne L. Ojeda

We are here in Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City for the second general rehearsal for the Jubilee Celebration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church). Since we are too early, I write about the first general dry run at the Ynares Complex in Pasig City last November 30, 2010.

The Jubilee Celebration which will be held at the Araneta Coliseum on April 30, 2011 is in celebration of the 50th year of the re-dedication of the Church in the Philippines. There will be nationwide cultural performances that will take place which will feature dancing and singing. The youth and the young single adults from several stakes (LDS congregations) will be comprising the dancers group while the adults comprised the choir. I am very excited to participate in this milestone event as a member of the more than 1,000 members of the Jubilee Choir. I sing Soprano 2 along with those wearing red.

I enjoyed all the folk dances from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, some of which I don't know the names. Our stake (Novaliches Stake) danced the Maskara Dance and Carinosa/Mantones de Seda. My niece Mitch (who has just turned 12) is part of the dancers. I couldn't be more proud of her!

The second rehearsal is expected to be much better of the first. I understand that the dancers group will already be in costumes. For the Jubilee Choir we will already be singing the folk songs before or after the folk dance. Let's wait and see!!
