My Journey to the Temple

I taught Lesson 18, "Establish...a House of God" in my Sunday School Gospel Doctrine adult class for Deparo Ward, Novaliches Philippines Stake. The lesson is about temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Temples are an essential part of the gospel of Jesus Christ and so the LDS Church builds many temples around the world. President Howard W. Hunter said:
" Let us be temple-attending and temple -loving people. Let us hasten to the temple as frequently as time and means and personal circumstances allow. Let us go not only for our kindred dead, but let us also go for the personal blessing of temple worship, for the sanctity and safety which is provided within those hallowed and consecrated walls. The temple is a place of beauty,it is a place of revelation,it is a place of peace. It is the house of the Lord. It is holy unto the Lord.It should be holy unto us" (Ensign,Oct. 1994,5.)

It is for this reason that I always make it a point to visit the temple, as long as there is one in the place, during my travels.

I have listed the temples around the world that I have visited so far. My list totaled 16 and here they are in the order of seeing first to last - Manila Philippines, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Provo Utah, Mount Timpanogos, Las Vegas Nevada, St. George, Utah, Bountiful, Washington DC, Oakland California, Hawaii, Seoul, South Korea, Hongkong, Boston, New York, and the Cebu Temple which is under construction.

Come July, I will be adding two in my list - Melbourne and Sydney Australia.

Temples are really special to me. One of my goals in life is to be married in the temple. One of the Philippine Area Presidency member handed me a quote from Elder Bruce R. McConkie, who was then a member of the Seventy, and he spoke about the relationship of the temple to the creation and perfection of family units. He taught:
"From the moment of Birth into mortality to the time we are married in the temple, everything we have in the whole gospel system is to prepare and qualify us to that holy order of matrimony which makes us husband and wife in this life and in the world to come. Then from the moment we are sealed together by the power and authority of the holy priesthood...everything connected with revealed religion is designed to help us keep the terms and conditions of our marriage covenant, so that this covenant will have efficacy, virtue, and force in the life to come. Thus, celestial marriage is the crowning ordinance of the gospel...Thus the family unit is the most important organization in time and in eternity.
And thus we should have more interest in and concern for our families than for anything else in life...there is nothing in this world as important as the creation and perfection of family units".
