Ivy Ivy

One of the reasons why my recent trip to the US is rather special to me is being able to be in the five (5) States, which are homes to Ivy League schools - Cambridge, Massachussetts (Harvard University), New Haven, Connecticut (Yale University), New York (Columbia University & Cornell University Ithaca), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (University of Pennyslvania) and New Jersey ( Princeton University).

The Ivy League is an athletic conference comprising eight private institutions of higher education in the Northeastern United States. The term is most commonly used to refer to those eight (8) schools considered as a group. The term also has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism.

All of the Ivy League's institutions place near the top in the U.S. News & World Report college and university rankings and rank within the top one percent of the world's academic institutions in terms of financial endowment. The Ivies are all in the Northeast geographic region of the United States. They are privately owned and controlled, although many of them receive funding in the form of research grants from federal and state governments.
